How to Plan Your Wedding Without Breaking the Bank

Calling all DIY & Budget Brides - This One’s For You!

EVERY bride has one thing in common after they get engaged - It happens after the euphoria of the ring has worn off and reality sets in: I’m getting married …. how do I actually plan my wedding ?!?! Don’t panic! We are here to guide you through the real world (and virtual! ) of wedding planning and what options may fit your needs and budget.

Trying to plan a wedding in 2019 is not your mother’s planning experience (or aunt who planned their own wedding and won’t let you forget it). There was a time when you had two options: either plan the wedding yourself (especially for a bride on a tight budget) or hire a wedding planner. While hiring a wedding planner is ideal to make the planning process and wedding day go off without a hitch it is not always in the budget, and that’s okay!

Being realistic about your budget is the first step to creating the wedding of your dreams. Before starting the actual planning process there are a few key points that need to be decided: at least a general Budget, Date (have a back up just in case!) and a general Number of Guests. After these three factors are set in place the planning process may officially begin! There are three categories of planning tools you will find on the internet for the DIY bride – wedding blogs, free wedding smartphone apps, and online wedding planning!

With one quick online search you will find websites and blogs with all sorts of tips, and tricks for free! However, beware of falling down the wedding rabbit hole that is the internet! There are websites like Pintrest and DIY wedding blogs that are great for inspiration and general planning tools and advice but they may not be the most realistic. Before you assemble your tribe and try to recreate the centerpieces you absolutely love, keep in mind that a lot of the pictures that are used come from styled shoots that wedding vendors have staged. Try to keep your expectations in check (we’ve all had that one Pinterest project that didn’t come out like the picture). Sort through the information and advice offered and focus on what is best for you while being realistic to your budget.

While there are plenty of planning blogs and free templates, you may find yourself inspired but lacking the tools needed to pull your vision together. There are also some useful apps for planning on the go. Smartphone apps may be helpful in organizing information or connecting with their recommended vendors. However, these apps and templates may fall a little short if you are looking for a little more guidance for how to execute your big day, not just planning the logistics, an online wedding planning service may be what you are looking for!

Online wedding planning services are a great option for the couple who wants the guidance, knowledge, and experience of a wedding professional. While the online planning services may cost anywhere between $200.00 - $700.00 (depending on who you select) it is worth every penny! While each planning service varies from one another, generally you will have access to the advice, guidance, and planning tools used by an experienced wedding planner; without the full cost of hiring them! While most of these online planning packages are created for planning on the go, there are only a few that are accessible as a smart phone app. If you are interested in online wedding planning, be sure to join our newest addition to the CGE family - Brandi's Bride Tribe!

While this wild world of wedding planning may seem overwhelming at first just keep in mind that this is about you and your love. Don’t let the planning process distract you from the big picture! With the right amount of planning and patience any couple can create the wedding of their dreams.
